What could be less taxing than taking your socks off and lying down for an hour?

How can Reflexology help stress related symptoms? Stress can be a very good thing, it can motivate and support us through challenging times whether this is an interview, reaching a deadline or reacting quickly in a dangerous situation. Stress is quite literally our bodies’ natural coping mechanism to deal with a ‘Flight or Fight situation’. When we feel our heart rate increase and our thoughts quickening this is usually through stress, often we achieve our best in these circumstances. But if we are continually under pressure and most of us are, our bodies become exhausted and there is a negative stress cycle.

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar?

stressed*Headaches/migraines
*Frustration & easily irritated
*Lowered immunity
*Insomnia and difficulty sleeping & relaxing
*Pain and stiffness
*Lack of energy
*Loss of libido
*Hair loss

There are many ways to help keep stress in balance. Have you ever thought of Reflexology?

The answer could be in your feet. Reflexology can be a very relaxing experience, after all you are lying back and receiving a treatment, however this is much deeper than that. Initially a foot massage will relax the muscles and tissues of the feet and lower leg area, the massage will increase the blood and lymphatic circulation of the most distal part of the body, meaning that fresh oxygenated blood will flow around the body improving energy levels, releasing stiffness and lethargy caused either by a sedentary lifestyle or by exercise with many clients feeling light on their feet immediately after a treatment. Then as reflexology pressure point techniques are applied, tension is often released empircially found around the head, neck, back and chest. By applying pressure and asking the client to breathe deeply during pressure point technique, anxiety can be released, breathing rates seem to lower and the mind starts to wind down. This can be a really soothing and releasing feeling which helps to switch off the ‘Fight or Flight’ feeling. With regular treatments and by being shown easy and short self help reflexology you can do to yourself or family, you can use reflexology in your everyday to help keep stress in a positive cycle.
