Aromatherapy

The summer is such a great season no matter what weather we actually have, the longer evenings, the brighter mornings and all the things that are out there to do. However this season can be difficult to manage, heat, sweat, sun burn, insects, allergies, travel….

That is why I thought I would write a little blog with some ideas for using essential oils for sun burn, insect bites, repellants and face spitzers for cooling down and keeping beautiful summer skin. Also with the added benefit of being natural perfumes 🙂

Oil can seem really heavy in the heat so you could choose lighter oils such as Grapeseed or no oil and use Aloe Vera as a body moisturiser or base product for using essential oils.

After Sun & insects in 1: A great remedy for cooling the heat of sun burn is aloe vera as it is cooling, soothing and promotes cell regrowth so great for damaged skin, burns or insect bites. If you add True Lavender, Eucalyptus Blue Gum and Roman Chamomile. This blend will help with pain relief, inflammation, skin repair, infection and also act as a deterrant to insects. So making up a little pot of this could help for all 3 burns, bites and insect repellant. That will make your bag lighter! Try Jojoba if you would prefer an oil for sun burn.

Cool down with a refreshing face spray that will also help to moisturise your skin. Try with distilled water 85ml, aloe vera 10ml, 2ml orange flower or rose water or witch hazel (orange/rose for drier skin and witch hazel for oily skin), 1 drop propolis tincture for preserving your spray and add 2 drops of your preferred essential oil.

Neroli & Pettigrain would be great for dry skin and is also very calming and safe to use in the sun, Geranium & Palma Rosa would be good for oily skins.

Shake in a bottle and leave for 24 hours. Then filter through a coffee paper and add to a bottle with an atomiser. You can store in a fridge for a really invigorating refreshing spray 🙂 This should last for 2-3days and on a hot day….
